THE BRIDE FROM GRANADA

GRANADA, ANTIOQUIA, COLOMBIA.

On December 6, 2000, a FARC car bomb exploded in the main square of Granada, Antioquia, killing 19 people and severely damaging the town. The following day, against all expectations, Beatriz García and Óscar Giraldo were married in the church beside the ruins.

One of the most powerful elements of the composition is the sign displayed in front of the church:

"We all lose because of war. Let us all help build a peace process."

Captured by Jesús Abad Colorado, the photograph portrays a powerful contrast between destruction and life, memory and oblivion.

FABRIC RESEARCH

War was the central theme; division emerged as a symbolic act, while repair became a way of restoring harmony and constructing meaning through opposites.

Acts of repair became metaphors for mending the social fabric. Textile painting became a way of reconnecting with the earliest drawings I created while researching the subject, translating the emotions it evoked into material exploration.

Through patchworking contrasting textures, this garment balances a visceral visual presence with a soft, tactile surface.

In Break Point, a pictorial fragility contrasts with the graphic strength of color accents and hyper-tactile elements that re-signify the meaning of conflict.
