LA BELLEZA | THE BEAUTY

In 2019, during my second year studying fashion design, I was selected as the winner of Talento Joven (Young Talents), a competition sponsored by Inexmoda, which allowed me to present a fashion performance at Colombiamoda 2019, Colombia’s leading fashion week.

“Art does not pretend to transform the ugly into beautiful, but to represent it faithfully.” UMBERTO ECO

Error, the grotesque, and costume find in this performance an opportunity to critically analyze fashion as a normative institution of good taste, gender, and social class.

Francisco Goya y Lucientes

In Goya's work, the monstrous, the ugly, and the unsettling become notions deeply intertwined with social class and gender, bringing his practice into dialogue with a contemporary understanding of how taste is constructed through an intersectional lens.

MAKE UP

CAROLINA BUENO and JOHANNES URIBE WERE TWO OF THE SEVEN ARTISTS WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE. SHE CREATED THE FX MAKEUP FOR ORGANZA HISTERIA, THE DRAG QUEEN WHO OPENED THE SHOW.
Different silicone prosthetics were used to recreate skin imperfections on the models.

PROCESS

THE FX MAKEUP REQUIRED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME, PRECISION, AND EFFORT TO ACHIEVE A HIGHLY REALISTIC EFFECT.
Juan Cortés, a Colombian contemporary artist, composed the runway music. The soundtrack was designed to challenge the models by continuously altering the tempo throughout the show.

3D Animation

Julián Angarita and Mario Carrascal created the animation that illustrated the different textures presented throughout the event, featuring human figures that continuously disfigured one another, alluding to the multiple layers of meaning embedded in the concept.

CERAMIC SCULPTURES BY FRANCIA VILLABONA.

SCULPTURES

These ceramic pieces referred to good taste as a mutable and subjective construct, while simultaneously establishing a symbolic connection to the beauty found in the unexpected.

FOOTWEAR

FOOTWEAR FOR THIS PERFORMANCE WAS PROVIDED BY DR. MARTENS COLOMBIA.

Special thanks to every artist involved in this project for their talent and trust. Thanks to Inexmoda, Grupo 4, and Dr. Martens Colombia for their support and sponsorship.
